Shhh! Sneaky knitting!

When I have patterns due, I should really do nothing BUT those patterns. Sometimes though, I just have to sneak in a little bit of fun knitting for myself. No tricky math, no frogging and thumping my head on a desk, no sketches and redesigns. Just some nice relaxing sock knitting.

These are fun Doctor Who themed, made with time traveler yarn from Knit Picks. They're going to take a while, since I really DO need to finish these designs, but they're a fun little break!

  1. Hi, I am a beginning knitter and recently received your book Knits for nerds as a gift. I was going through the pattern for the summer queen shawl and have a question.
The patter seems to be in a 20 stitch repeat, yet it says to cast on 110 stitches. Do I only cast on 100 or do I stop half way through the pattern? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just have never knitted something like this.

  2. Hi Margaret, I am actually the designer of the Summer Queen shawl. I can answer your question if you need help.

You do cast on 110 stitches. The reason...the shawl's lace is actually an 18 stitch repeat +2 sts. The "P2" before the * is the edging. You don't repeat those two stitches. Everything after the * is repeated until the end of row.

I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

  3. Yes! It helps a LOT. Thank you so much for the quick reply.
