One of the lovely knitpicks staff has decided to review Knockdown Knits! The coolest part? This knitpicks staffer happens to be a roller girl! Check it out here!

I'm getting the dreaded tattoo itch again! I've been dying for a derby tattoo, but I'm not sure what I'd want. Plus, as Dan keeps pointing out, it's his turn! Though my argument is that he got a Naptown skull tattoo on the inside of his arm, but he claims since it was free it doesn't count. Anyway...

I personally, would like him to do something with this 1987 piece on his upper arm:

Now, let me stress, that I do think this tattoo is pretty cool. Yes, it's a little, ahem, dated. But it was done by Sailor Moses who is a bit of a tattoo legend. So that in itself is cool. And as Dan points out, it's not dated, it's "retro".
BUT, it is faded, and I would like him to get it touched up. Just so the colors will pop again, and the fade spots are filled in. Though, as many tattoo lovers know, it's so hard to spend money touching up a faded tattoo, when you could spend that money on a NEW tattoo. (though I'm going to cave, as my Michael Whelan really cool stained glass dragon heart on my back is faded from red to pink!
What Dan wants to do at the moment, is get his leg done. Right now he has this:

Which he's going to do something to. I'm not sure what his goal is. There's a cool robot painting that he talks about wrapping around his leg, but not sure how he would incorporate it.

Or he could just do his other leg. But that would be too easy!

I googled myself and found this! Cool huh?

So I just realized that the jammer hat pattern has an error in it! Arrrrggghhh!
I'm going to try and create an updated chart for downloading, but here is the basic two things that are wrong.
a) the chart is supposed to repeat on BOTH sides of the hat.
b) the chart is missing 10 sts. Luckily they are blank sts, so the actual star, is in fact, correct.
However it should be, on row one, 10 MC sts before your first CC st, then everything is correct to the last CC st, then 9 MC sts, pm, repeat chart for row 1 of chart.

So not a big deal at all, but I didn't want to start seeing a lot of poor jammer hats with only one star on them!!!!

So the big news on who we are taking on as Fresh Meat for Naptown???

ALL OF THEM!!!

That's right! Picking between those dedicated, 20 girls that sweated it out at workshops, bonded with us, and busted tails (literally in at least 1 case) how could we choose? And with the addition of a "b" team this year, and our brand new secret lair practice facility, we had the room!

So welcome fresh meat. Prepare for your hazing. It involves a Stitch And Bitch night at my house where we drink pomegranate martinis and watch Jason Statham movies.

(of course, you girls shall be licking your martinis off the floor, and knitting with acrylic, but I digress...)

In other news, I went to see Monte yesterday to show him that his tattoo is on the front cover of my book, and set up an appointment for my brothers first tattoo! That dude is booked out on Fridays until JANUARY! Sheesh! Oh well, the best is worth the wait!

Yea. Our neighbors love us.

Tryouts were last night, and what a blast! We encouraged our potential girls on. I was doing one girls WFTDA test, and saw that she wasn't crossing over on the corners (something I need to check off) at the same time I started saying, "crossover, crossover!" I realized about 5 other gals, a mix of wannabes and vets, were telling her the same thing.
The night ended with us deciding who our new girls are (but not telling them yet... bwahaha) and walking out in the parking lot to find my hubby with a megaphone and the fan club handing out popsicles. Gotta love it!

I'll post more tryout details later, but I'm going to wait until those who made the league KNOW they made it, so I don't give anything away!

In case you live in the Indy area and missed the Carmel signing, there is going to be another one in Greenwood!

Upcoming Author Event

Event: Speak & Signing
Where:
BORDERS- GREENWOOD
7565 US 31 South
Indianapolis, Indiana 46227
When:
Saturday, October 4, 2008
01:00 PM - 02:30 PM

I've spent the past 2 days swatching, what I hope will be a super awesome military style felted beret, with a needle felted NRG logo. (or a place to sew a patch for any teams derby logo).
I got the idea from my editor Roxane, and it's been spinning in my head for about a month now.

I'm hoping to felt it tonight. In the sink. At work.
Heh.

Saturday at Barnes and Noble in Carmel I had my first ever book signing for Knockdown Knits. I was extremely nervous, since I am not usually one for speaking in public. Luckily, there was a lot of Q&A, which I find much easier to handle. It wasn't a really large crowd, but it wasn't as empty as I feared. Maybe 20 people sitting and standing around. *(Edit, I have been informed by Paul the Video guy and by Dan that it was closer to 30-40) We sold a nice stack of books too!
I was really, really flattered that people showed up. This whole book thing has been very nerve-wracking for me! I want the book to do well for several reasons. 1) I HATE failing at anything. 2) I love this project. I believed in this book, and I want other people to enjoy what I've tried to create for them. 3) I don't want to let down the people that took a chance on me. My editor fought to have this book come to life, so many other people at Wiley worked really hard to make it look so good and come together so nicely, I'd really like for it to be a success for them!
*and I want to make another one. Apparently this is like childbirth. You forget the pain after the first one is a few months old, and start plotting for the second! This time though, I would like to show off some derby world domination. Drag leagues from all over the world into my madness! Bwahaha!

Here are some pics from the event.

They had this sign up at the front doors of the store! How crazy!

We went through over half of this stack! Not bad right???
Anthony at Barnes and Noble was really good about leading the Q&A and making me feel comfortable. (and directing us to the nearest strip-mall Irish Pub afterwards)

There is a guy in a light blue shirt in these pics, and I wish I had gotten a picture of his shirt! It said something like, "It takes balls to knit" and he was knitting what looked like a sock! He is officially awesome!!!

4Leaf Cleaver and her awesome new tattoo were at the front of the line!

Cleaver and "the girls" with her signed copy!

That's about what was left. I saw a couple more sell before we took off, and I heard a few people were late for the signing and grabbed some copies that evening! So all in all, I think it went pretty well!

Also, if you head over to www.knitpicks.com you can check out my podcast interview with Kelley!

Tomorrow, this Saturday, I'll be at the Barnes and Noble in Carmel IN, signing copies of Knockdown Knits.

And I have to, *gulp* give a speech.

Ack. ack. ack.

So my husband, and our friend Paul, have made a video. Paul is the video guy for the Naptown Roller Girls. He's also getting ready to go to college. To help him go to college, he's entered a scholarship contest, making a short film about the benefits of tea.
Paul and Dan, can't JUST make a short film about the benefits of tea. At least, not like normal people. No. They do this:

I got my copy of Breaking Dawn Friday night, in the most painless midnight book release ever! I waited until almost midnight to leave my house, hoping that the line would already be moving. Got to Barnes and Noble at 12 on the dot, went to information, got my wristband, went to line "c", texted Diane Beatin' for the entire 10 minutes I was in line (she was at borders) and walked out the door at 12:11am!
I do have to say though, I was probably the oldest person there, who was not a mom! Oh well!
Got my book, finished it Saturday night!
